what is special triangle 45-45-90 and how should i understand this problem

you can solved it by using the formula
a=b
 so it mean whatever answer you have in a it is also the answer in b

you can understand the problem if you know on how to understand the illustration given

this is an isosceles right triangle whose two legs are equal
the hypothenuse        h  = s √2           s = length of side
so if   s = 6       therefore      h= 6√2
and also          s =  h/√2      or       ( h√2)/2 
so given the hypothenuse you can easily find the length of the legs
given the leg you easily find the length of the hypothenuse
