A rectangular garden has an area of 84m^2 and a perimeter of 38m.find its length and width.

Sagot :

let x  = length  &  y = width
then
         2(x +y) =  38          ^          x +y  =  19      ^  y = 19-x
             xy    =    84
             x(19-x) =84
           -x² + 19x -84 = 0             /. -1
           x² - 19x + 84 = 0
           (x-12)(x-7) = 0        ^      x = 12    or    x =  7
           so the length =  12m      &  the width  =    7m
