Answer: People are much more liberal nowadays. People are more free to express themselves, there aren't any social/financial/political reasons for people to not have relationships. In the past, families would get involved and people would need approval (parents want their kids to be married to the rich or to a certain family etc etc) to be in relationships, while now people are more free to be with anyone they like.
Aside from that we are very connected. It's easy to contact people through social media or calls/texts, unlike before that people had to talk face-to-face or through letters. Face-to-face conversation means that people have to be together all the time and letters take a long time, but texting and social media allows people to connect even when they're far apart so relationships evolve faster
