If it takes 6 minutes to cut a log into 3 pieces, how long will it take to cut a log of the same kind into four pieces?

We have the ratio;
6 minutes : 3 pieces
So we let x be the time taken to cut a piece of log into 4 pieces so:
[tex] \frac{6min}{3pieces} = \frac{xmin}{4pieces} \\ (6min)(4pieces)=(3pieces)(xmin) \\ 24=3x \\ 8=x[/tex]

It will take 8 minutes to cur the log into 4 pieces.

2 minutes:1 piece

Convert:
[tex]4 pieces(\frac{2 minutes}{1 piece})=8 minutes[/tex]
