Sedimentary rocks are formed by sediment that is deposited over time, usually within bodies of water and the Earth's surface. Metamorphic rocks are created by the physical or chemical alteration by heat and pressure of a pre-existing rock into a denser form. Igneous rocks are solidified magma or lava. The lava undergoes the crystallization process and forms igneous rocks.
