Sagot :
Given:
A(-3, 2)
B(1, 4)
C(5, 6)
D( 9, 7)
1.) Plot the pts in one rectangular coordinate system
Please see attached file
2.) Are the pts collinear?
Segments AB and BC are collinear but Segment CD is not collinear with Segments AB and BC because the slope of segments AB, and BC are equal and there is a change in slope in segment CD.
The pts are not collinear.
3.) Find the slopes of segment AB, CD and AD
for segment AB
A(-3, 2) and B(1, 4)
m = y2 - y1 / x2 - x1
m = 4 - 2 / 1 - (-3)
m = 2 / 4
m = 1/2
for segment CD
C(5, 6) and D( 9, 7)
m = y2 - y1 / x2 - x1
m = 7 - 6 / 9 - 5)
m = 1 / 4
for segment AD
A(-3, 2) and D( 9, 7)
m = y2 - y1 / x2 - x1
m = 7 - 2 / 9 - (-3)
m = 5 / 12
4.) What can you say about their slopes?
for segment AB, m = 1/2
for segment CD, m = 1/4
for segment AD, m = 5/12
They have different slopes but all of the slopes of segment AB, BC and CD are positive. It is increasing from left to right.
