FINDING THE PRICE OF THE CHOCOLATE
Josie had ₱150 in her wallet when she entered a store. After buying 3 notebooks at ₱25 each and a pack of chocolates, she had ₱43 left. How much did the pack of chocolates cost?
- Let x be the price of chocolate. Write it in a number sentence.
[tex]150 - ((3 \times 25) + x) = 43[/tex]
- Solve the equation by using the PEMDAS rule.
[tex]150 - ((3 \times 25) + x) = 43 \\ 150 - (75 + x) = 43[/tex]
- When there is a "number minus" infront of an expression in parentheses, change the sign of each term in the expression.
[tex]150 + (75 + x) = 43 \\ 150 - 75 - x = 43 \\ 75 - x = 43[/tex]
- To find the value of x, transpose number 75 from left to right, don't also forget to negate the symbol after transposing.
[tex]75 - x = 43 \\ - x = 43 - 75 \\ - x = - 32[/tex]
- Change the sign of both side of the equation.
[tex]- x = - 32 \\ \boxed{x = 32}[/tex]
