Problem: The sum of two number is 50 . the second number is 8 more than the first number. find the numbers

x+x+8=50
2x+8=50
2x=42
x=21

The first number is 21 and the second number is 29.

the equation is 
x+y=50 where y+8=x
so  (y+8)+y=50
2y=50-8
2y=42
divide both sides by 2
y=21
x+21=50
x=50-21
X=29
