Invented in the late 16th century by a Dutch spectacle maker, light microscopes employ lenses and light to magnify images. Despite the fact that a magnifying glass technically qualifies as a simple light microscope, today’s high-power or compound microscopes use two sets of lenses to provide users with a much higher magnification level and greater clarity.
The first set of lenses is the eyepieces that the viewer looks at; the second set of lenses is the targets, the lenses closest to the object (specimen) to the object. It is important to know the functions of every part using a microscope.
