The plant would die if not it will grow polluted too. Cause the water it's using for growing and making food to produce nutrients in leaves or fruits is polluted.
If the water source is polluted, it's basically dirty. Bacteria, germs, chemicals or any other harmful substances may be absorbed by the plant, which can delay the growth of the plant or worse, kill the plant.
