The width of a rectangle is 12 m less than its length. If you add 30 m to both length and width, you double the perimeter. Find the dimensions of the original rectangle.

let x = length of retangle
thus the width = x-12
perimeter  =    2x +2(x-12)  =  4x - 24
length of new rectangle =  x+30
width =    x-12 +30 =  x+18
perimeter =    2(x+30) + 2(x+18) =  4x+96
thus        4x +96  =  2(4x-24) = 8x - 48
               4x = 144
                 x =  144/4  =  36m
             the width =  36-12 = 24m
