The reason was that, The Nazi (including Japan, Italy and Germany) planned to take out the main Harbor of most ships on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. In this case, The Nazi thought that it will instantly cut off the reinforcements for the war.
The battle on Pearl Harbor started the 2nd World War in the history :)
