I think He can't hurt his own father. Hrothgar was the Father of Grendel and that is why King Hrothgar must find another person to kill Grendel because he cannot kill his own son (Grendel) and that person is Beowulf. King Hrothgar and the Swamp Hag(Mother of Grendel) had sex.
