ANSWER: m∠R = 50

EXTERIOR ANGLE THEOREM:

  • The measure of an exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the measures of its two remote interior angles.

SOLVING FOR m∠R

  • Add S and R.
  • x = 19x - 2 + 16x + 2
  • x = 35x
  • NOTE: The 2 gets cancelled out due to Inverse Property of Addition.

  • Now, make an equation.
  • 35x = 105

  • Apply DPE (Division Property of Equality)
  • [tex]\frac{35x}{35}[/tex] = [tex]\frac{105}{35}[/tex]
  • x = 3

  • Substitute the answer to x on both S and R.
  • S: 19(3) - 2 = 55
  • R: 16(3) + 2 = 50
  • 55 + 50 = 105 (refer to exterior angle theorem)

=) hope this helps
