A bottle is 5 /9 full of oil. Pete took 45ml and it was then 1 /2 full. How many ml does the bottle hold when full?

Let x be the content of the bottle in full.

[tex] \frac{5}{9} x[/tex] - [tex] \frac{1}{2} x[/tex] = 45

Re-write the equation with similar fractions.  LCD is (2)(9)

(2)(9)([tex]( \frac{5}{9} x)[/tex] - (2)(9)[tex] (\frac{1}{2}x) [/tex] = (2)(9)(45)

10x - 9x = 810

x = 810

ANSWER:  The bottle holds 810 ml when full.
