personal views of family and divorce

Sagot :

Family:

The personal life perspective on the family is essentially an Interactionist perspective and makes two basic criticisms of structural perspectives such as Functionalism, Marxism, and Feminism'. Carol Smart is the main thinker associated with this perspective.

Divorce:

It is a social institution, governed by legal, moral, and community obligations. During wedding ceremonies, couples pledge to remain together, "as long as we both shall live." Divorce devalues the meaning of these vows – and consequently of the entire institution of marriage. Children of divorce are more likely to experience poverty, educational failure, early and risky sexual activity, non-marital childbirth, earlier marriage, cohabitation, marital discord, and divorce. In fact, emotional problems associated with divorce actually increase during young adulthood.
