Paul owes Paula 35 cents and has a pocket full of 5-cent coins, 10-cent coins, and 25-cent coins that he can use to pay her. What is the difference between the largest and the smallest number of coins he can use to pay her?

Sagot :

The largest number of coins is made by using all 5-cent coins. So the largest number is 35/5=7.
The smallest number of coins is made by using a combination of 25-cent coins and 10-cent coins. Note that 25+10=35 ,so the smallest number of coins is 2.
We find our difference to be 7-2=5.
