Answer:
I have attended a talk for Persons with Disability seminar before the Pandemic strikes last year. One of the topics I have focused on as a speaker for PWD's is their preference to be treated with respect rather than mercy. I am a member of PWD too and as a person I would rather choose to get respect than being treated differently because I am different. It would just make me feel like I am not capable to do somethings on my own if people treat me kindly because of my disability. It would also be nice if treat them like ordinary people to make them feel that they are not weak.
1.Here are some tips on how to treat PWD's with respect: Do not look at them as victims. If you look at them like they are helpless or need special attention, they would just feel helpless and weak. Let's treat them like how we treat ordinary people and be kind. Find commonalities. If you found even just one common thing between you and a person with disability, it is easier to connect.
2.Make eye contact and adjust posture when you talked to them. They are also people like you.
3.Ask first if they want or need assistance before doing it.
