WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT PRINTMAKING TECHNIQUES? DESCRIBE EACH ONE.
Printmaking techniques are classified into three groups: relief, intaglio, and surface.
In relief methods, the negative, or non-printing component of the block or plate, is either cut or scraped away, leaving the pattern standing in relief. Alternatively, instead of cutting away the backdrop, the relief print can be made by building up the printing surface.
Intaglio printing is the contrary of relief printing in that it uses ink that is buried beneath the plate's surface. The printing surface or plate, which can be made of copper, zinc, aluminum, magnesium, plastic, or even coated paper, is sliced, scratched, or etched with the pattern. The surface is wiped clean after the printing ink has been rubbed into the incisions or grooves.
The term "surface printing" refers to procedures in which an image is printed on a metal, stone, or other material's flat surface. Lithography, a planographic process, is the most used surface method.
