MELODY
A melody, also known as a tune, a voice, or a line, is a continuous series of musical tones (pitch) that the listener sees as a single thing to the listener. A melody is a combination of pitch and rhythm in its most literal definition, but it can also refer to other musical characteristics such as tonal color in a more figurative sense. It serves as a bridge between the foreground and the background music. Having a tune in the foreground isn't always necessary.
The aesthetic result of a certain sequence of pitch in musical time, implying a rhythmically structured flow from pitch to pitch in music, is known as melody. By the late nineteenth century, Western music was regarded as the surface of a group of harmonies.
