2(a+b)=36

a+b=18

a=18-b, this will be eq. 1

ab=80, substitute eq. 1 to a

(18-b)b=80

18b-b²=80

b²-18b+80=0

(b-10)(b-8)=0

b-10=0, b-8=0

b=10, b=8

either solution is good

if b=10, then a=18-b=18-10=8 dm

if b=8, then a=18-b=18-8=10 dm
