Kurt's father is 2 more than eight times his age. If the product of their ages in years is 300, how old are they?

let x = the  age of kurt 
and 8x + 2 = the age of his father 
sol. x(8x + 2) = 300
8x squared + 2x = 300
4x squared + x - 150 = 0
(4x + 25) (x - 6) = 0
x- 6 = 0
x = 6
so , the age of his father is 8(6) + 2 = 50 and kurt's age is 6 .
