MID-OCEAN RIDGES
At mid-ocean ridges, where tectonic plates are tearing apart, oceanic crust is constantly forming. Young oceanic crust forms as lava that wells up from these rifts in the Earth's surface cools. With increasing distance from mid-ocean ridges, the age and density of oceanic crust increases.
