NOLI ME TANGERE, THE MUSICAL
In 1996, Noli Me Tangere returned to the CCP, but this time as a musical play composed Cayabyab, with libretto by National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera.
It was staged at the CCP Little Theater from February 1-4, 1996 as a production of Tanghalang Pilipino.
Noli Me Tangere the musical, closely follows the storyline of the original novel and the opera. There are slight differences in the partitioning of the story into the different acts and in the dramatization of the ending, as well as the music and libretto.
The musical play had its rerun in 2011-2012 during the 150th anniversary of Rizal's birth as part of Tanghalang Filipino silver anniversary celebration and again in 2013, both times at the CCP Little Theater. Audie Gemora directed a young cast composed of mainstream actors which include Mark Bautista and Gian Magdangal alternating Crisostomo Ibarra, and Cris Villonco as Maria Clara.
