A 120 kg cart with an initial velocity of a 1.5 m/s to the right is added upon by a constant net force of 55N. What is the final velocity of the cart after 2 seconds?

Use F=ma to get acceleration:

F=ma
a=F/m
a=55N/120kg
a=0.45833 m/s^2

Now get the final velocity (Vf):

Note Acceleration is change in velocity over change in time.

  we have: a = (Vf - Vo)/(t2 -t1)
                      Vf = final velocity               Vo = initial velocity
                      t2 = final time                   t1 = initial time

    solving for final velocity Vf:

(Vf- Vo) = a(t2 -t1)
Vf = a(t2 -t1) + Vo
    = 0.45833(2 - 0) + 1.5
Vf  = 2.41666 m/s  ........Answer..
