People die in the short run. It is certainly true that adequate food and medical care are extremely important.
On the other hand, sustainable development is not a collection of independent efforts. Progress toward each goal requires progress on the others.
Because of the size and complexity of the problem, all the goals are important. Because I see the pain of poverty, food and medical care are important. Choosing a path in this great effort is beyond my single ability. I trust the competent and committed people to make the best decisions as they see them.
Some things are out of my hands. Leading sustainable development is one of them.
