WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN THE WORKPLACE
In March 2015, TELUS International PH (TIP) launched its Connections Women's Network, which supports women's empowerment in the workplace. Managers, directors, and vice presidents from various company departments attended the event. The group's primary goal is "to support female team members in their careers by celebrating their womanhood and accomplishments." TELUS Canada, the parent company, initially launched Connections Women Network. The group started in 2006, with 11 chapters across Canada and currently two international chapters, one in the Philippines and another in El Salvador.
According to Mirei Magallona, Vice President for Operations and Co-chair of Connections Women's Network, it is their company's advocacy to inspire women to pursue and accomplish their career goals through networking, personal and professional growth and development, recognition, and community involvement. Their mission is to encourage women to excel in their chosen craft.
The group members convene monthly to discuss their various initiatives and progress and show their support. Various programs related to women's interests have been organized and implemented from these meetings. One successful program is the series of silent auctions where the proceeds went to a charitable institution, Kanlungan ni Maria, a home for the abandoned elderly. The group also organizes Zumba fitness sessions and health and wellness talks.
Through the years, TIP's Manila Chapter has been growing as it continues to support the professional development of its female members and affirm its status as a top employer for all wore. The growing population of women in the once male-dominated industries enables women to make a mark in business as they gain access to leadership development and excel in leadership roles.
